Group opposes chemical dumping in Clinton landfill
CLINTON – A group of DeWitt County citizens is opposing a change in the operation of the solid waste landfill in Clinton that they could fear could lead to PCB contaminants getting into the Mahomet Aquifer that flows beneath the site.
The group is known as WATCH (We're Against Toxic Chemicals) and is headed by Matt Varble of Clinton. He said what started out as "fairly strong" opposition has grown to "almost universal and unanimous" feelings against turning part of the landfill into a disposal site for chemical waste.
