Robbery suspect caught after chase, UI officer fires shot
URBANA – An Urbana man arrested early Sunday for robbing an acquaintance in that city is expected to make a court appearance this afternoon. And a University of Illinois police officer who fired his gun at the alleged robber following a pursuit has been placed on paid leave.
Sheriff's Lt. Ed Ogle said Gary McCall, 58, of the 100 block of Rowena Drive in Urbana reported that about 12:20 a.m., Jack A. Beasley, 36, who last listed an address in the 1000 block of Eastern Avenue, robbed him of his wallet and struck him in the face. Although injured, McCall did not go to a hospital. Ogle said the two men know each other.
