CHAMPAIGN – Bolstered by a promise of city funding, the Champaign Downtown Association is in the final stages of hiring its first executive director and hopes to have that person on the job by the first week of January.

Lois Wacholtz, president of the downtown association, said the association's board has narrowed its list of finalists to four candidates and will begin interviews after the Thanksgiving holiday. She said the position will pay between $35,000 and $45,000 annually.
