Illinois House rejects Chicago-area transit bailout
SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois House on Wednesday rejected a bailout plan for the Chicago-area mass-transit systems, even though it was backed by the governor and House leaders from both parties.
SB 307 would have diverted the state's share of gasoline sales tax receipts from the Chicago region to help fund the mass-transit systems. It fell 14 votes short of passage during a special session called specifically to consider the bill.
