Group gets grant for sequestration project
The federal Department of Energy announced Tuesday that a Midwest consortium led by the Illinois State Geological Survey had been awarded $66.7 million for a large-scale study of carbon sequestration.
The project, the third phase of an effort the state survey has had under way since 2003, will inject 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide per day from Archer Daniels Midland's ethanol plant in Decatur 5,500 feet below the surface.
