Winter a time for extra vigilance

A kitchen fire that resulted in the death of a Penfield woman and separate fires that destroyed an Urbana bedroom and damaged a Champaign fraternity are recent reminders of winter fire hazards.

Winter is the worst time of year for home fires and deaths, according to the National Fire Protection Association.
