Conservation district plans photo contest

DANVILLE – The Vermilion County Soil and Water Conservation District is sponsoring a local photo contest.

Participants may submit pictures with a nature theme or something that portrays the essence of the environment. Categories and suggestions include:

– Conservation: volunteers planting trees, erosion control measures.

– Education: children doing conservation activities.

– Landscapes.

– Trees and plants.

– Wildlife.

– Youth (17 and younger): any subject.

Submissions must be taken by Illinois residents who are amateurs. Photo formats are 35mm film in color or black-and-white print or high-resolution digital images, preferably no larger than 8 by 10 inches. There is no limit on the number of submissions.

Include the photographer's name, photo location, category and contact information. The deadline is April 30.

Winners in each category will receive $25 gift certificates and be eligible for a state competition.

Photos will be judged on photographic quality, visual appeal and appropriateness to category.
