CHAMPAIGN – Bad luck continues for WEFT 90.1 FM, Champaign-Urbana's community-based radio station.
Station manager Mick Woolf said that an attempt to install a repaired transmitter controller went awry Thursday when the controller shorted out for a second time.
The controller had initially been damaged during the storms of May 30, and a first attempt to reinstall it Wednesday failed when it shorted out.
Some water had been discovered in the transmitter tube on Wednesday and had been removed, but the controller still failed on Thursday, Woolf said.
"There appears to be more damage to the transmitter itself or possibly to the tube," he said.
"More troubleshooting is in store while the controller is being repaired for the third time."
WEFT is a community-based station that has been broadcasting in the area since 1981.
