Truck-motorcycle crash kills Champaign man

CHAMPAIGN – A Champaign man was killed as a result of an accident that closed traffic on Interstate Drive in northwest Champaign Wednesday morning.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Fabian said Caleb Roch, 20, died at 6:44 a.m. today.

Fabian said Mr. Roch, 3512 Roxford Drive, C. was riding a motorcycle that collided with a semitrailer truck.

An autopsy will be conducted in Bloomington on Thursday, and an inquest may be held at a later date.

A release from the Champaign Police Department said that just after 6 a.m., police were sent to the 1600 block of Interstate Drive, where they learned a truck was struck by a motorcyclist attempting to pass on the right side.

The truck was eastbound, about to pull into a private business, when the motorcycle hit the truck and slid underneath a truck tire, the police release said.

The truck driver, Francis Bent, 51, of Danville, was not injured, police said.

Champaign police reopened Interstate Drive between Mattis Avenue and Farber Drive to traffic about 10:30 a.m.
