Meeting to discuss Danville 'green' job opportunities

DANVILLE – Community members can learn more about "green" job opportunities at a town-hall meeting Wednesday at Danville Area Community College.

The meeting is hosted by the United Steelworkers and sponsored by the Blue Green Alliance in conjunction with former Vice President Al Gore's We Campaign.

It will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at DACC's Bremer Conference Center, 2000 E. Main St.

The moderator will be Jack Darin, director of the Illinois Chapter of the Sierra Club.

Speakers include Robin Rich of United Steelworkers; Michael R. Johnson, executive director of the Illinois Solar Energy Association; state Sen. Mike Frerichs, D-Champaign; and Terry W. Ruprecht, director of energy conservation at the University of Illinois.

The town hall will offer community members a chance to learn more about high-paying job opportunities in renewable energy, clean technology and "green" manufacturing. Participants will also discuss environmental and economic risks associated with accelerated climate change.

It is one of 13 being held in cities across the country in June.
