Available development sites in Rantoul going online

RANTOUL – The village is getting ready to use the Internet to market local industrial sites and available buildings.

Rantoul Economic Development Director Robert Bruce said developers, business leaders and the general public will soon learn about Rantoul development opportunities online, with the launch of a Web site within two months.

"Our target date is November 1," he said.

Village board member Herman Fogal said the site will be linked to the Web sites of Rantoul, Champaign County Economic Development, state development and chamber Web sites.

The village staff has spent the last few months collecting information, developing maps and taking photos to provide computer users with virtual tours of industrial sites on Rantoul's west side as well as available buildings on the former Chanute Air Force Base.

The industrial tour will begin with a map of Rantoul, with current and future industrial locations highlighted.

Clicking on a particular site will allow users to zoom in to detailed maps, information about acreage and utilities and contact information.

A second map will show available buildings on the base, with 360-degree views of buildings' interiors.
