For 78 years, family has spruced up area clothing
CHAMPAIGN – Joe Hamburg's retired from the dry-cleaning business now. He's 93 and living at the Canterbury Ridge assisted-living community in Urbana. But for more than half a century, he was in the thick of things at Garber's Modern Cleaners.
Last week, his son Steve announced plans to close Garber's longtime store on Wright Street and sell its two satellite stores. That prompted father and son to reflect on the 78-year-old, family-run business.
