Governor OKs bailout, with a twist
SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois General Assembly on Thursday finally seemed to have worked out a solution to the Chicago-area mass transit crisis, but Gov. Rod Blagojevich threw in a last-minute twist.
He favored a plan that would have used a portion of the state's sales tax on motor fuel, but the legislation the House and Senate finally approved imposed a regional sales tax increase instead. Blagojevich objected to the tax hike, but said he could live with it under one condition.
