Lightning arrestor failure caused outage
CHAMPAIGN – More than 2,000 AmerenIP customers in west and south Champaign lost power at midday Wednesday for about an hour before service was restored.
The power for about 2,000 customers went out at 11:42 a.m., when a lightning arrestor failed, said Leigh Morris, an Ameren spokesman. A lightning arrestor is a passive device that does carry electrical current.
