Township supervisor considering tax increase proposal
CHAMPAIGN – City of Champaign Township Supervisor Linda Abernathy said she's considering pushing for a November tax increase to help the cash-strapped township, after city voters on Tuesday indicated they strongly support helping adults living in extreme poverty.
The question Tuesday asked whether township voters should urge the town board to restore general assistance levels to help people living in extreme poverty. It passed with 70.6 percent of the vote.
