Champaign man charged with attempted murder
CHAMPAIGN – A Champaign man has been arrested on a charge of attempted murder after a shooting Friday evening near Hessel Park sent a 23-year-old man to the hospital and may have injured one more.
Darmel L. Smith, 27, whose last known address is in the 1500 block of Carver Drive, Champaign, was arrested at 11:25 p.m. Friday on a charge of attempted murder, a Class X felony, and taken to the Champaign County Correctional Center, according to a Champaign Police Department press release.
