Former Illinois football player McPhearson pleads guilty
URBANA – Former University of Illinois football player Derrick McPhearson, 21, will spend his summer in the Champaign County jail after pleading guilty this morning to felony theft.
McPhearson admitted stealing a laptop computer from a UI student's apartment on East Armory Street, Champaign, on March 2, 2007. He was sentenced to 30 months of probation, 180 days in jail with the ability to earn day-for-day good time, and ordered to make $110 restitution with co-defendant Joseph "Jody" Ellis, 21, also a former UI football player.
