County refunds tax money to Provena
URBANA – Champaign County Treasurer Dan Welch this morning issued a check for $6.1 million to Provena Covenant Medical Center to refund all the hospital's property taxes paid under protest since 2002, plus interest.
Champaign attorney Jerry Lyke, who is representing county officials in a pending lawsuit the hospital filed to get its taxes back, said the check was written voluntarily because a local judge signaled the hospital is owed a refund.
