Champaign council OKs eminent domain option
CHAMPAIGN – If necessary, the city will file eminent domain lawsuits to acquire the final five properties it needs for the Boneyard Creek Second Street detention project – despite protests from two of those property owners.
The city council on Tuesday also decided to ask the Illinois General Assembly for "quick-take" legislation that would allow the city to gain title to disputed property at the beginning of the eminent domain process, while litigation over the property's value continues.
