Towns planning events to honor those who served, died

Organizers of Memorial Day services in the Fisher area on Sunday encourage the public to observe a decades-long tradition of military units performing.

"This is a terrific opportunity to pay tribute to the soldiers defending the great United States of America and to see these military units performing in public," said a news release from Harold Curfman, past grand master of the Patriarchs Militant Independent Order of Odd Fellows' Grand Lodge of Illinois. "Working with the local Amvets has been a tradition here ... for nearly 50 years."
