URBANA – A lawsuit pending in federal court seeks more than $825,000 in damages from the city of Paxton, its police chief and one police officer for the wrongful death of a rural Rantoul man who was allegedly struck by a vehicle and killed while walking along U.S. 45.

Rantoul attorney Paul R. Wilson Jr. filed the 11-count civil suit in U.S. District Court in Urbana on behalf of Rantoul resident Ronald Loy, the father of Joseph Loy, 34, who died last May after a Paxton police officer allegedly gave him a ride to near the north edge of Ludlow.
