Authorities unsure what went wrong at holiday shows
SPRINGFIELD – It will be a while before investigators with the Department of Natural Resources know what went wrong at fireworks displays last week in Monticello and Villa Grove that left people injured, including a teen-age girl who received burns to her arm and face.
Jim Hafliger, chief technical specialist of the explosives division for DNR, said the company that set off the displays at both locations, CHW Displays Inc., of Monticello, is properly certified and licensed. That company belongs to Clarence H. Wittig, he said.
