Bryant Cottage said to be meeting place for Lincoln, Douglas
BEMENT – The Bryant Cottage home on East Wilson Street looks pretty much like it did when senatorial candidates Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas are said to have visited there in 1858 to iron out the details for a series of debates.
The single-story, four-room house was surrounded by fresh-cut grass and brightly colored herbs as I entered the site on a recent visit.
