South View teachers celebrate new start
DANVILLE – Not all teachers mark the return to school with confetti, noise-makers and Cold Duck.
But on Monday, teachers at South View Middle School blew party horns and sipped sparkling wine – the non-alcohol kind – to celebrate efforts that went into trying to boost student achievement and the high-stakes standardized test scores last year.
"We're celebrating what you've accomplished," new Principal Brenda Yoho told the 70 or so teachers, aides and other staff at a back-to-school assembly. "I think people in this community don't have a good opinion about this school, and I don't know why. ... This year, we're going to toot our horns and let people know who we are."
