Urbana High School makes adequate yearly progress
URBANA – Social studies teacher Michael Pollock slapped his hand down on the table, his face gleaming with glee.
After five years of being part of a school labeled as failing, Urbana High School teachers and students have something big to celebrate: Their school has made Adequate Yearly Progress, or AYP, the measure which the school must pass to meet No Child Left Behind legislative mandates.
"This is huge for us," Principal Laura Taylor said. "No (scores) went down anywhere. In all cases, they went up. In some cases, dramatically."
