Urbana mayor's $18,000 in travel tops among local officials
URBANA – Urbana Mayor Laurel Prussing is the most-traveled elected city official in Champaign-Urbana, with a taxpayer-paid travel bill that exceeds $18,000 since 2006.
Records obtained by The News-Gazette through the Illinois Freedom of Information Act show that Prussing spent $18,884 on travel between January 2006 and July 2008, with trips to conferences in Charlotte, N.C.; Reno, Nev.; Miami (twice); Chicago (twice); Washington, D.C. (twice); Los Angeles; New Orleans; San Francisco; and New York City. (Two of the conferences Prussing attended took place in December 2005 but were partially reimbursed in 2006.)
