Hundreds attend send-off for troops going to Afghanistan

CHAMPAIGN – Dozens of American flags fluttered in the chilly October night, but six straight ranks of soldiers never shivered against the wind.

Nor did they flinch when their commander told them that their deployment to Afghanistan would mean exhaustion, hardship and confusion.
