2 Dems challenging GOP incumbents in county board elections
In District 1, which includes Mahomet, it's been decades since a Democrat won a seat on the Champaign County Board.
When no Democrat bothered to run in the primary, Scott Hays and Eric Thorsland decided to run as a team for the Nov. 4 ballot.
They face two incumbent Republicans, John Jay and Lawrence Sapp, with established records.
Sapp has been on the board six years; Jay has farmed in the area for 46 years, and has served as fire chief at Cornbelt Fire Protection District, and as trustee, clerk and supervisor in Hensley and Mahomet Townships.
