Two landlords object to Danville's vacant-building proposal
DANVILLE – Two local landlords objected Tuesday night to the city's proposed vacant-building ordinance, which would require owners to register the empty structures and submit plans for rehabilitation or demolition if they aren't being marketed for sale or rent.
Landlord Terry Moreman called it a "Big Brother" form of government, and landlord Gayle Jochim argued that the city should distinguish between a vacant structure and an abandoned structure. She said she has no problem with the city addressing dilapidated structures that are eyesores and can pose a hazard to the public, but just because a building is vacant doesn't mean it's not taken care of or maintained.
