Warming centers available in area during cold snap
An onslaught of Arctic air will keep Thursday's high just above zero and could push overnight lows to a record minus 12 – frigid for anyone, but especially those with nowhere to keep warm.
The Illinois Department of Human Services has designated more than 100 state buildings across Illinois as warming centers to provide daytime shelter for those seeking refuge from the cold. They include:
