Drop in sales-tax receipts forcing Champaign to cut back
CHAMPAIGN – Dismal sales tax receipts have city officials taking immediate steps to reduce spending.
Recently released sales-tax figures from the Illinois Department of Revenue show that Champaign's sales-tax receipts for October were $2.24 million. That's $172,000, or 7 percent, less than a year ago. That compares with a 1 percent drop for September.
