MAHOMET – Cornbelt Fire Protection District trustees did not violate the Illinois Open Meetings Act before their November meeting, their lawyer told the attorney general's office.

The board has been accused of meeting 30 minutes before the regular meeting Nov. 5, according to a Jan. 16 letter from the attorney general's office. It dismissed three firefighters that night, for disrespect to other firefighters, their officers and the department. The News-Gazette obtained Cornbelt's Jan. 21 letter to the attorney general after a Freedom of Information Act request.
