Life Remembered: 'Legend' Kucera revered for heart, drive
CHAMPAIGN – The child of Czech immigrants, Emil Kucera grew up on a farm, but went on to join the Army Air Corps before World War II, and became a longtime Chanute instructor.
At the Eastern Prairie Fire Protection District, he was the second chief in its history, serving for 21 years and overseeing enormous growth in the district.
