Urbana residents eager to see park district's use of taxes
URBANA – Amy Ando, who lives near Carle Park in Urbana, said more money for Urbana parks will help other neighborhoods to replace old playgrounds like the district did in her neighborhood.
By a margin of 59 percent to 41 percent, Urbana voters on Tuesday approved a hike of 15 cents per $100 of assessed value in the property-tax rate for the Urbana Park District. The tax increase won't show up on property-tax bills until next year, so the district won't get any additional revenue until then. The district budgeted about $6.8 million in spending for the current year. The tax increase is projected to bring $850,000 in additional revenue.
