Proposal for tenant assistance put on Urbana agenda
URBANA – A proposal to financially assist tenants who are being evicted because a landlord allowed their building to be condemned will be considered June 8 by the city council.
Former Urbana Alderwoman Danielle Chynoweth brought the proposal to Monday night's city council meeting, saying it was time for a countywide conversation about housing issues – in particular after the recent condemnations of the Gateway Studios in Champaign and Autumn Glen apartments in Rantoul because landlords didn't pay utility bills.
