Governor stumps in Champaign for tax increase
CHAMPAIGN – Appearing before an enthusiastic crowd of about 500 people in a room normally used as a production area for disabled workers, Gov. Pat Quinn on Thursday tried to build support for a two-year, temporary income tax increase to repair an out-of-whack state budget.
In his speech Thursday at Developmental Services Center, Quinn noted that he took over from the impeached Blagojevich 20 weeks ago "and I'm not here to take over a state that's going to cut back on fundamental services to the people who count the most."
