48 UI faculty members pen letter supporting chancellor

URBANA – A group of 48 prestigious University of Illinois faculty sent a letter in support of Chancellor Richard Herman to The News-Gazette on Monday, the day Herman testified before the state commission looking into the school's admissions procedures.

The letter calls recent events surrounding the admissions process "an unexpected and unwarranted assault" on UI leadership, and it expresses "full support" of UI administrators in their efforts to deal with the matter.

If your buddy tells you to rob a bank and you rob the bank without his help, you should go to jail, not your buddy. Blaming the guy who gave you the idea for a crime is not a valid excuse for committing a crime.

UI leadership committed a crime against the integrity of the UI, it is the U of I leadership that should be punished for their wanton, knowing, and complicit cooperation in actions they knew were wrong. Fire the lot of them!

Then replace Administration with Trustee and Governor appointed members who will do exactly what the Trustees and Governor ask.

Bad analogy. This is a buddy. This is a boss.

The company you work for sells widgets for $1.00. The boss' friends' son comes in and your boss tells you to give the kid a widget for free.

The "honorable" thing to do is what? Quit? Tell your boss no?

The University is run by the state, and the state is run by politicians elected by the people of the state. It is the people of the state who need to get rid of the elected politicians involved.
