Paxton council refuses request to move mobile home
PAXTON – The city council voted not to allow a resident of the trailer park that is closing to move her trailer adjacent to another trailer park on the east side of town.
Monday night the council voted 5-3 against the recommendation of the Plan Commission to rezone a lot and a half at 251 E. Spruce from multiple residential to motor home. Sharon Myers, who moved to Paxton three years ago from Salem after she retired, now has to move from the Prairie City Trailer Park on the west edge of town because a Rantoul developer has purchased the park in hopes of the city creating a tax increment financing district there bordering Interstate 57, after which he hopes to develop that land. Trailer park residents must leave by next year. Myers said she doesn't know what she will do now. She doesn't want to leave Paxton.
