Volunteers defend tent city at Catholic Worker House
CHAMPAIGN – At a time of severe economic recession, Champaign city officials shouldn't be so quick to dismiss tent cities as a partial solution to homelessness, say two residential advisers at the Catholic Worker House.
Chris Watson, 22, a native of Tennessee, and Craig Kreutzer, 25, a part-time religious studies student at the University of Illinois, are among the residential volunteers who are supporting and watch over the Safe Haven Tent Community established several weeks ago in the backyard of the worker house at 317 S. Randolph St.
