Faith group offers movement class for seniors

DANVILLE – Faith in Action is offering Danville area seniors a chance to get up and move.

It's offering a new body movement class called "Body & Soul."

The class is free to seniors 60 years old and older, but registration is required.

It meets at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays at Lake Vermilion County Park on Denmark Road, Danville. The first session will be held on May 18.

Judy Story, a registered nurse who is board-certified in geriatric nursing, will lead the program.

"The body naturally wants to move, and when it doesn't, it can cause problems – stiffness and pain," Story said. "A body movement class can help keep seniors moving, active, and toned."

Story said some of the benefits of participating in a movement class include improved balance, strength, relaxation, muscle toning, flexibility and more.

"We also want this to be a fun social time," Story said. "We encourage people to bring a lunch to have afterward with friends at the Songer Pavilion in the park."

For more information or to register, call Faith in Action at 431-8489 or go to http://bit.ly/akRxRq. Transportation is available upon request.

Faith in Action is an outreach ministry of the Provena United Samaritans Medical Center Foundation.
