Vietnam Memorial replica draws steady stream of visitors

Even with a storm approaching LeRoy early Sunday morning, visitors kept trickling into downtown to quietly visit "The Wall That Heals"

A half-scale model of the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Washington, D.C., the replica has been touring since 1996. LeRoy is the only Ilinois stop for this replica in 2010.

Steve Vollmer, a member of the committee that brought the display to LeRoy said, "Response has been fantastic, support has been fabulous."

The exhibit opened Wednesday, and Vollmer said volunteers have been on hand 24 hours a day until it closes Sunday night.

Visitors, he said, have been steady, except from midnight to 4 a.m., and those hours have seen solitary visitors coming for a private moment.

The exhibit travels next to Clinton Township, Mich., where it will be on display from Sept. 2-5.

"The Wall That Heals" is a program of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
