Trucker ticketed after trailer hits car on I-57

CHAMPAIGN – A Mississippi truck driver was ticketed for improper lane usage after his truck trailer hit a car on Interstate 57 Tuesday night.

Illinois State Police said neither the truck driver, Michael Burts, 50, of Nesbit, Miss., nor the driver of the car, Antonyo Riley, 19, of Urbana, were hurt in the 9:12 p.m. accident, but both vehicles sustained heavy damage.

Police said the vehicles were northbound on 57 just south of Interstate 74. Burts was in the left lane and Riley in the right. When Burts tried to make a lane change into the right lane, his trailer his Riley's car, forcing the car into a ditch. Burts' truck then went into the center median and turned over.

Riley was also ticketed for not having insurance.
