Bus district launches updated website

URBANA – An improved website for the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District is intended to be more user-friendly.

The site at http://www.cumtd.com/ was launched Monday.

Karl Gnadt, director of market development for the MTD, said the original website was launched five years ago.

"Just from aesthetic standpoint, we felt it was time to give it a fresh look," Gnadt said.

It became apparent that there needed to be better use of technology, he said.

"That's what everybody expects these days," Gnadt said. "Our riders demand immediacy of information."

Users can more easily utilize STOPwatch real-time information tools that help riders to check whether a bus is on time at any given bus stop and the actual location of a bus on any given route.

Gnadt said the new website is more intuitive, has better interfaces and integration of bus stop information with maps and real-time data.

Users can also check out schedules and maps for route changes effective Sunday The Orange, Red and Grey routes will have significant improvements. Several other routes will have minor changes. Schedules and maps valid for bus routes through Saturday remain available.

The C-U MTD is also participating in social networking, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr.
