Power restored in west Champaign

CHAMPAIGN — Just under 700 Ameren IP customers have their power back.

Ameren spokesman Leigh Morris said a cable failed, affecting 678 customers in the area bounded by Highland Avenue on the east, Green Street on the south, Draper Avenue on the west and University Avenue on the north.

My power went out this morning, and again this evening, although I don't live in that affected area, but in another part of Champaign. This also happened last week. At none of these times was there any weather problem or other apparent reason for this to occur. Is Ameren using its most recent rate hike to address this infrastructure issue?
