Autopsy scheduled Monday for man who died in crash
URBANA — An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday for a West Union man who died in Urbana following a two-vehicle crash in rural Clark County.
Champaign County Coroner Daune Northrup said that Stephen H. Daugherty, 45, of West Union was pronounced dead at 11:19 p.m. Saturday at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Mr. Daugherty was one of two people who died as a result of the crash, which involved a pickup truck and an ambulance.
According to a state police report, Dottie Ann Bright, 37, of West Union, was driving a silver Chevrolet pickup truck east on Clark County Road 300 N when she reportedly failed to stop at the intersection with Illinois 1 in rural Clark County at 9:09 p.m. Saturday.
The report said Bright’s truck began to sideswipe a northbound ambulance driven by William Crumrin, 66, of West Union, causing the ambulance to overturn.
Both vehicles ended up in nearby ditches.
Bright’s passenger, Mr. Daughtery, was taken to Carle, where he was pronounced dead at 11:19 p.m. Saturday.
An EMT, Richard Poorman, 52, of West Union, who was working on a patient in the ambulance, was pronounced dead at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson.
The patient in the ambulance, Paul A. Cornwell, 52, of Annapolis, was taken to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville for treatment.
No tickets had been issued as of Sunday evening.
