Police arrest Champaign man in stabbing

CHAMPAIGN – The Champaign Police Department on Saturday arrested a Champaign man wanted in connection with a stabbing that occurred Friday.

Champaign police had been searching for 30-year-old Andre Washington for attempted first-degree murder after responding to a report Friday of a stabbing victim who needed treatment.

At about 6:20 p.m. Friday police responded to the 1400 block of West Kirby Avenue for a report of an unknown problem. Around the same time, officers responded to a report of a stabbing victim at the 800 block of Maplepark Drive. A 35-year-old man had reportedly been stabbed and needed treatment.

Police learned, during the course of their preliminary investigation, the victim was stabbed at an apartment in the 1400 block of West Kirby Avenue during an argument with the suspect.

The victim sustained serious injuries from the stabbing and received treatment from a local hospital, according to police.

Around 11:20 p.m. Saturday, information led police to the 2100 block of West White Street in Champaign, where they arrested Washington, the suspect wanted for attempted murder and whose last known address is on the 1400 block of West Kirby Avenue.

Also on Saturday at the White Street residence, police arrested Damien Ramell Henderson, 23, with a last known address on the 1300 block of Larkspur Lane, C, for possession of cannabis.
