URBANA – Urbana police are investigating the robbery of a man who was attacked by a group of teens about a block from his home Sunday.
Sgt. Dan Morgan said the 58-year-old man reported on Monday morning that he had been walking in the 700 block of South Glover Street about 5 p.m. Sunday when he was hit from behind and knocked to the ground by a group of young men.
On the ground, he was punched and kicked and one of the attackers – the victim estimated there were five or six – reached in his pocket and took his wallet and keys. The group then ran off.
The man found his wallet not far away. Nothing was apparently missing from it, Morgan said. He could not find his keys.
The man suffered abrasions to his face, hand and elbow but did not require medical treatment.
The victim, who is white, described his attackers as black men, about 17 to 19 years old, all about 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 373-8477.
