November was warmer than usual, remember?
CHAMPAIGN – November's weather in Champaign-Urbana was slightly warmer than normal – continuing a warming trend that began in March – but cooler and wetter weather late in the month may have signaled a change.
Both the monthly mean temperature for November and the average high were higher than normal. But the average low temperature of 30.7 degrees was lower than the average monthly low of 33.8 degrees.
The average high last month was 53.8 degrees, well above the normal of 49.6 degrees. The monthly mean was 42.5 degrees, more than a degree above the normal mean of 41.3 degrees.
There were three days in November when record high temperatures for Champaign-Urbana were established: 75 degrees on Nov. 9, 77 degrees on Nov. 11 and 75 degrees on Nov. 12.
But a month of above average or average temperatures ended on Nov. 23 when the daily high dropped to just 41 degrees. The highest reading since was 51 degrees on Nov. 30, and most days have been much colder.
Precipitation last month amounted to 3.86 inches, slightly above normal. For the year, though, local precipitation is running about 5 inches below normal.
For the second consecutive November, no snowfall was reported. About 35 percent of the time, according to the Illinois State Water Survey, November brings no snowfall.
