I-57 to be shut down around Mattoon for about hour

 PESOTUM – Illinois State Police are shutting down Interstate 57, both northbound and southbound, until about 1 p.m. to move a truck that overturned Sunday.

The trailer contained magnesium phosphate and overturned in the median.  Approximately 50 pounds will be burned at the scene.  ISP, Illinois Department of Transportation, EPA and local emergency services will be there while the substance is burned.

Vehicles traveling north will be rerouted to Illinois Route 45 at Mattoon.  Vehicles traveling south will be rerouted at Coles County Road 1000N.

Motorists are urged to slow down and drive with extreme caution during this closure.
