Car hits motel in Champaign; no injuries

CHAMPAIGN – Nobody was injured when a car crashed into a Champaign motel late Tuesday morning.

According to a Champaign police report, Curtis Gill, 17, was driving a 1973 Chevrolet Corvette west on Marketview Drive at about 11:50 a.m. At a curve in the road, he hit a curb with his front tire and overcorrected his steering, causing the car to cross into the eastbound lanes of traffic and hit the Quality Inn and Suites, 305 W. Marketview Drive.

Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said neither Gill nor an 18-year-old male passenger was injured.

Dunn said police observed no structural damage to the building, though landscaping was damaged.

Gill was issued a ticket for improper lane usage.

What father in his right mind would let a 17 year old drive a Vette?
